On January 20 Aviation in Barberton will be presented. Most of us know Wilbur and Orville Wright made their famous first flight at Kitty Hawk, North Carolina on December 17, 1903; however, did you know that Barberton also had an aviation company in the early 1900s? The Barberton Aviation Company was organized on November 11, 1909. Learn about Barberton’s early pilots and flights.
 

Lake View Urban Renewal Project

The Lake View Urban Renewal Project will be discussed on February 17. Following the development of a master plan in 1960, the City of Barberton began the process of winning federal urban development funds for the re-development of the downtown area. The project drew strong reactions from residents; supporting and opposing. After much political angling, the project ultimately failed to move forward, and in 1970, the federal money had to be returned. See what this project was all about!
