Today, the phrase Western Reserve is used frequently in northeastern Ohio, but do you know why? When the colonies were established in the 1600s, leaders were quick to claim huge swaths of unexplored territory for their individual colonies. Connecticut owned a tract that encompassed 3.8 million acres of the Ohio Country and would become known as the Connecticut Western Reserve. The city of Barberton lies just north of the southernmost boundary line - the 41st north parallel.
