Weekly Building Challenge

Hi friends!  Since you can't visit the library to build with LEGOs, blocks, K'NEX and more, Ms. Alison, Ms. Monica, Ms. Sarah & Ms. Abby are going to post weekly buidling challenges that you can do at home.  Make sure to check in each week for a new project!

April 6 - 10: Build a Pillow Fort!  Using blankets, sheets, pillows or even towels (make sure to ask your adults before you start grabbing stuff off the bed or couch) build yourself a fun little fort indoors to read and play in.  You can even grab some paper and crayons or markers to make a sign for you fort.  Need a little help, take a look at this Pillow Fort Kit.  Ask an adult to take a picture of you in your fort, to share with others.

April 13 - 17: Build a Bridge!  Using whatever supplies you have at home (make sure to ask your adults before you start using supplies) build yourself a bridge. You could use newspaper and tape, Lego, cardboard, or anything you want! Try to have your bridge hold a stuffed animal up! Ask an adult to take a picture of your bridge, to share with others.

April 20 - 24: Build a Paper Tower! Using any paper you have lying around... especially the stack of paper that may be heading to your recycling bin, build a tower structure as tall as you! After the first attempt, discuss how rolling and folding the paper might help. For an added challenge try timing yourself. Build a tower 3 ft tall in 5 minutes or less. How tall of a tower can you build in 5 minutes? For design ideas and more check out this video Newspaper Towers.

April 27 - May 1: Build a Silly Robot! Build a robot using blocks, Legos, Tinkertoys, Play-Doh, pompoms, buttons, craft sticks, toilet paper tubes, or anything else you have around the house. The sillier the better! Need some ideas to get you started? Visit 10 Robot Crafts for Kids, for some inspiration.  Ask an adult to take a picture of you and your robot, email it to Ms. Alison (alison.huey@barbertonlibrary.org), and she’ll share it on the website and library’s social media.
